Types Of Braces

There are more than just one type of braces, and your doctor will recommend the type that fits you the best based on the appearance of your teeth.

There are the braces that you usually picture when you hear the word “braces”. They are made out of stainless steel. Metal brackets would be fixed onto the teeth and secured wire with elastic ties made out of rubber. These braces are the least expensive, and you get to choose your colour of your elastics.
Self-ligating brackets are used to attach onto the wire as an alternative to using elastic ties.

These braces are of the same size and shape as metal braces, except that they are clear brackets or tooth-coloured made to blend into teeth. You could also use tooth-coloured wires so that the braces are even less noticeable.
Ceramic braces, along with being less noticeable than the traditional ones, move teeth faster.

Lingual braces, though similar to the traditional braces, are placed on the lingual surface (backside) of the teeth and are not easily visible. These braces are used mainly for cosmetic purposes and generally prolongs the time for treatment.

As the name suggests, these braces are made of a transparent plastic material which are custom-made and does not use brackets or wires on the teeth. They are also known as clear braces and are a very comfortable option for treatment. However, these braces come with restrictions; they can only tilt and rotate teeth in their position. You will be easily able to eat and drink anything you like while having them on.
